Everyone is different from others in terms of what situations they experience stress and how they manifest this stress. Identifying the signs of entering stress mode is important from two aspects: first, more self-awareness and understanding the effect created in us; Second, identifying warning signs in the early stages, to adapt and recover energy. Usually, when faced with stress in the workplace, we react in two ways: either we strengthen our usual behavior and work style, or we do the opposite. In the following, we will explain more about these two types of reactions, and at the end, we will state the appropriate solution for dealing with stress in the workplace.
The first reaction: strengthening the usual behavior and work style
Some people reinforce their usual work style when they are stressed. Here are some common examples of this. In these examples, during times of stress, either your usual work style is reinforced or your usual behaviors become bolder and more intense.
Usually:
- Your conversation style is clear and direct; But now it has become blunt and probably careless and thoughtless.
- You enjoy group discussion; But now you have gone beyond this limit and you don’t want to make decisions on your own anymore. You hold meetings to gain consensus and group agreement, while holding these meetings is not necessary.
- You are interested in order and details; But now you don’t trust how others do their work and you micromanage; That is, you also monitor the details of their work.
- You are a compatible person and get along with others; But now you avoid anything that may cause conflict and disagreement.
- You do things in a group; But now you are more idealistic than practical.
- you have high energy; But now you feel restless and impatient.
- You are confident in your abilities; But now you blame others for every problem without considering your own role in creating it.
- You challenge yourself to do better; But now you have become self-critical.
- You are realistic and focused on practical issues; But now you downplay your emotional feelings or those of others.
- You focus on the task at hand; But now this focus makes you oppose any change in appearance.
- You prefer common and conventional approaches; But now you follow these approaches without any justification or argument.
- You make quick decisions; But now you act without thinking and immediately or by creating any ambiguity, you get confused.
